New SONY Point & Shoot Camera | Cyber-shot WX9 [Preview]

If you took a moment to watch the embedded video (which I think you should), you would have been introduced to a truly amazing digital camera. It's not due to be released by Sony Electronics until later this month, however, I got my hot little hands on one early!

It feels like it's been a long period of time since I've owned a compact point and shoot camera. A good indication of how far back I'm talking about will be easily understood once I reveal how many mega pixels it was. While I can't remember the exact model of the camera I had, I do recall that it was a measly 3 mega pixels compared to the massive amount of mpx's Sony's new point and shoot possesses. However, back then, that was considered a good size for a casual shooter.

Now, though, the same technology just doesn't cut the mustard! We want bigger and better. More mega pixels and features than we know what to do with, really. This is where our insatiable appetites for cutting edge technology forces companies to meet and exceed the demands we place on the market. The folks over at Sony Electronics are setting out to do just that, and are blowing us away in the process!

As a photographer who primarily shoots with a digital SLR (Sony A700), I am serious when it comes to gaining more control over my photographs, which is why I bypassed purchasing a newer point and shoot camera—to replace my puny 3 mpx— in favor of something that could deliver what I needed to grow and become a better photographer. A great deal of research went into the process of selecting my camera, which is extremely complicated in an over-saturated market. You can visit countless websites and read tons of reviews, and still be left scratching your head over which one to choose in the end. Although I'm completely confident that I made the right decision upon upgrading my equipment.

While I absolutely love my camera—for a while now—I have contemplated purchasing a compact camera that I could keep with me daily. Typically, I'm not one of those photographers who “never leaves home without her camera”. I mean, seriously, my DSLR and beefy lenses can get heavy (even if I'm only using my 50mm), and I don't always want to feel encumbered by my gear when I just want to go out for a few hours. But there are times when I wish that I had a camera with me to snap a quick shot of whatever catches my eye. That would be the only drawback of being a DSLR owner. Recently, I was given an opportunity to see how far point and shoot cameras have come since the last time I owned one, and boy was I impressed!

At the end of March, I was invited to San Diego, CA by someone from Sony Electronics to come and try out one of their new cameras due to release some time this month, the Sony Cybershot WX9. After reviewing the preview of this camera online, I was extremely excited to get my hands on one to see how it performed. Initially, I was under the impression that we would just be trying it out and giving them back at the end of the event, but I was super pleased to discover that they were giving them to us to keep! Imagine how happy a room full of bloggers (approx 11 of us) were when this tidbit of news was announced. Sony seriously spoiled us!

During the course of my stay in San Diego, CA, I familiarized myself with the new Sony camera and its features. There are quite a few of them that I came to love, and I want to share them with you in a post called “10 Reasons Why You Want to WIN a Sony WX9”. I could have went on and on about all the things I loved about this digital camera, however, I decided to highlight the features I enjoyed using the most. A sweet surprise will also be announced with the next blog post, so stay tuned for that exciting news! Keep on keepin' on.......

I'm still in an odd mood.
Technodoll really hit the nail on the head with her humorous assessment
sparked by my most recent haiku post, discussing my 'feelings'.
I already knew what my deal was by that point,
but saying it myself or printing it rather,
      makes it too real...

      The rain came back today,
which is a shame, especially since it's forecast to be here all-week-long!
What makes it worse is the fact that we didn't do anything exciting this past weekend
when we had the chance. We got too comfortable with sitting around.
I did , however, take Sian's advice, and embarked upon a pursuit to tickle my funny bone.
We went to see Tropic Thunder.
It wasn't laugh until I cry funny, but it was comical.

I can tell when I'm in a mood because my google reader starts to overflow.
Don't get me wrong, I love my up-to-the-minute details on new posts,
but when I'm in a "mood" it becomes overwhelming to see that many unread posts!
I'm almost ashamed to say how many blogs I follow........
I wonder how much you can tell about a person by looking at their feed reader?!

I really am all over the place right now, can you tell?!
Today, I have been reminiscent of our time spent along Big Sur's beautiful coast.
Lydia just recently returned from a wonderful little getaway that reminded me of my adventure.
I suppose that I will always think of Big Sur anytime I see an image with mountainous
      cliffs and rolling waves.

      Evening Coast

Camping just a stone's throw from the ocean
with the smell of the Pacific coast's salty sea air following me around.....ahhh.

What I would give to be there right now......

I have felt somewhat negligent in terms of the blog world. My negligence doesn't always mean that I don't post, but I have felt almost like I haven't really been here. And I don't have anything interesting or profound to share with you today, because I'm still not really here. I just hate to think that my pictures go to waste, sitting in their little folders on my hard drive. I have so much to share, yet I don't.........doesn't make any sense to me either, but humor me. I guess the best way to describe what I've been going through would be to say that, I've been in lala land........sort of doing my own thing - creating.

Creating what? Well, stuff............I started making these little artcards from misc. things I cut out of magazines and have laying around for my scrap booking. I've made one almost every night this week. I'm not sure I'm ready to share them since they look pretty rough, and my eye is way to critical.........but it's fun and it takes my mind off of other things. I really want to buy some paints to incorporate in the mixture, but I don't have any idea as to what kind. I have no experience whatsoever with paint, complete novice. I'm thinking maybe acrylics, which is what Cody also suggested. Maybe a trip to Cheap Joe's is in order this weekend?!

Cody has been working on a dining room table for the house, made from scraps he's picked up here and there. For starters, I'm super excited that he is motivated and working in his shop like he's been planning to do. And secondly, I'm happy that I will finally have a place to spread out all my junk, instead of all over the floor, couch, and coffee table, when I'm working on something. Oh and lastly, I'll just be happy to have dinner at a table for once........It's been a while since we've eaten dinner at a table. Having meals while sitting on the couch sort of degrades the work you put in to preparing a meal, you know?!

My plan this weekend is to, well, make plans.........a vacation for Cody's birthday this year. I think we've selected the perfect place for some amazing adventures, somewhere I've wanted to go ever since I saw this fashion spread in a magazine, I didn't care about the clothes, I just feel in love with the scenery! I won't tell you where yet, but once we've set it in motion, and I receive my guidebooks, I will fill you in. If you don't already know, and can guess.......then you're real good.......I'll give you a hint, it's somewhere out west again. If you remember, we went to Las Vegas for my birthday last year. Oh boy, I can't wait!!!
