Autumnal Portal

Autumnal Portal

If you can find a path with no obstacles,
it probably doesn't lead anywhere.

Frank A. Clark~

I know that you were hoping to see some "crazy" new adventures,
but I got sidetracked. I desperately needed to update the 366 Blog.
I've got some additional surprises in store for you this week,
I know...I know....promises....promises,
you'll just have to stay tuned.

I spent sometime this past weekend backing up my mountains of photos.
I have been putting that off for such a long time, and my guess is that you might be too.
Wouldn't it be dreadful to lose everything if our equipment fails?
It wouldn't be the end of the world, but pretty darn close!
Take the time to do it, you won't be sorry.
While I transferred huge amounts of files,
I spent time doing other stuff.

Speaking of dreaded tasks......
I had a long awaited dentist visit today.
I have had this crippling fear of going to the dentist for years,
but today I finally took that first step in fixing my plethora of chomper problems.
I go back on Thursday to get some extensive work done, I'm not happy about it, but I
will be since they prescribed me some happy pills to take beforehand.

I didn't get any more cleaning done today,
instead I'll just go and stare at the clutter-less laundry room
& uncluttered dining room table to remind myself that we've done plenty of things.
Tomorrow, I want to get started on micro-cleaning the laundry room.
I say micro-cleaning because that's where we need to organize the shelves,
and the place where I keep all my art-type supplies.
Maybe I'll share before and after photos of that?!

Etc.
  • I took the above autumn photo last year in Hanging Rock State Park.
  • I reprocessed it after coming across it while backing up my photos.
  • See the one I did last year, HERE.
  • I think the new one looks more rustic to me.
  • Cody won last night in Scrabble (he usually does) - Elk
  • For dinner last night we had Stuffed Shells with spinach and mushrooms - TD

  2. yeah i like the new one better, it actually looks less processed. beautiful color - i would love to be walking that pathway.
It's a constant battle with the photo backup issue and a big chore but as you say well worth it. I can't imagine losing my thousands upon thousands of photos.

  3. What a welcoming, yet sentimental gateway to autumn. This is beautiful.

You are putting me to shame with your cleaning. It sounds like Cody pitches in and works along with you. That would give me lots more energy if Mike would clean with me, but....
I need to keep this post in mind and use it as incentive to clear my laundry room shelves and finally get them painted. I've been putting it off!

  4. p.s. Another reason to keep this post in mind is your reminder to back up. I haven't backed up my blog yet and I'm not really sure how to do it. But I have a note here telling myself to figure it out!

    Another beautiful masterpiece.

  6. Beautiful image. And thanks for the reminder to back things up. I have just purchased a subscription to Carbonite and online backup system. I am still going to keep up with my DVD backups and such, but its nice having something working in the background which is easier to restore from as well.

  7. You are up early:)

Your titles are so precise. The word selection, makes the image so tangible.

Your the texture inspirierer... that was a hard one to say.

  9. God, I hope the dentist goes well. I hate going there, too. I actually need to get root canal done soon. I know what you mean about cleaning--I did my upstairs, now I need to vacuum the downstairs. Cleaning tasks never seem to end.

  12. Sounds like you've been busy lately. I need to follow your example and back up my files. If my computer goes down, my photos will go with it. This photo is so lovely. I like your new treatment of it.

  13. I can relate to the chore of backing up photo files. The only reason I manage it regularly is the company I work for lets me work from home most of the time so I back up work and photo files at the same time.

I love your autumn shot from last year. Both versions are good but I think I like the one you reprocessed here the best.

  14. PS I meant to say good luck Thursday with your dental work! I've had gum surgery which I hated but the happy pills help a great deal. I hope your procedure will go very smoothly with a swift recovery.

  15. just ask margie - she lost photos of Danny's first weeks. I back up almost every time I download photos that would break my heart if I lost them. I've also started printing favourites.
I'm so glad you're getting organized, it feels good, doesn't it?

  16. Mmmm stuffed shells... *drool* - a feast of champions!!

I don't think anyone likes going to the dentist, except for masochists. Shudder. But teeth are not hair, nothing grows back after it's gone sooo it's a necessary evil, in a way...

What work has to be done, if you don't mind me asking?

    (( good luck! ))

  17. I just stumbled upon your blog by way of someone else's (in their comments) because I loved the name you had chosen for it and had to learn more! I am so very glad that I did! Your photography is just stunning! Wonderful work!

  18. I prefer the old one, but I like the new one too.

One of the things on my 101 in 1001 list is to figure out a way to thoroughly back up my photos. Let's hope nothing happens before I get to it, LOL

  19. Great quote, photo and idea - to backup I mean. I never do, I should shouldn't I?! Thanks for at leat reminding me!

  20. I wish the gate was open just a little bit, enough that you could spy a way to walk down that road behind it.

  21. I like both images. I think this one is more vibrant. What an inviting gate.

    Autumn colours are so beautiful.
Backing up photos is so tedious but needs to be done.

  22. Lovely photo! I would like to play Scrabble...it's chilly outside, time to find more indoor activities!!!

  23. I'm back from Flickr, what a chest of precious shots you have.

The picture makes me feel as if I'm there in person, and drawn to the gate. Beautiful!

  24. Love that gate!! And I like the way you processed it. Really makes me feel the crisp air!

  25. Best of luck at the dentist's. I love the photo at the top with the gate and the quote is truly perfect.

  26. Very nice photo--it makes me want to follow that path. Thanks for the reminder to back up photos. I haven't lately, though I should have learned my lesson when I lost six years of photographs in the Great Computer Crash of Aught Four. :-( Best of luck with your dental visit.

  27. I like the new one better too. It's more orangey and yellowy than pinky...

I always back up my pics. Partly because my hard drive can't handle them all. :D

  28. I LOVE that photo. It is everything autumn for me.

  29. oh do we get to ask questions in our comments and then you post the answers? that seems like a fun little blog quirk!
the quote is awesome...! and i got lost over at your flickr pages. i do like this newer version it is softer and slightly glowy.
i am a relentless backer upper. i have multiple version from EH, DVDs and time machine. the bottom line is that i sleep better at night knowing those hard earned captures are not going anywhere near the dreaded photo graveyard. good for you! no wasted tears on lost photos.
gong to the dentist is good too. necessary evil and all that.
