Stumbling Upon Moore Cove Falls

Moore Cove Falls

By accident we found ourselves at the trailhead to Moore Cove Falls. Initially, our intention was to stop and take a few photos from the auto bridge, but we were pleasantly surprised to find this treasure. Because it was a relatively short hike we said, "What the hay, let's check it out!"

I liked not knowing exactly what we were in for, it made the stroll that much more enjoyable. We followed Moore Creek upstream for .7 miles and crossed a few footbridges (my favorite) along the way. Imagine our surprise when, at the end, we were greeted by a lovely cascade that descended from the top of a cave! It's not very often that you can walk behind a waterfall for an ultimate up-close view. That was a special and unexpected treat, indeed.

As with the waterfall we visited earlier, I had a hard time capturing a properly exposed photo. A streak of light was brightly shining horizontally across the cascade! Even so, it was an awesome place to have stumbled upon, especially since we were able to witness such a unique view.

Don't you just love those sorts of unexpected stops?
What did you find on your last venture?

  8. I'd say you did a fantastic job photographing the falls. We have some here where you hike behind them and it's so beautiful. I really like the way you designed this post with the separate photos almost looking like they're framed.
Our last adventure was to the Portland Rose Festival parade. We rode the MAX train for the first time to the parade because when each of us lived in Portland it wasn't there yet and we rode the buses. For old times' sake we took the bus back from the parade to where we parked our car. :)

  11. The mosiac of photos really sets the mood,.. the greens the darks and the white of the water. I haven't had an unintentional "find" in a long time, perhaps it's time to go wandering again!

  15. You stumbled on Moore's Cove at just the right time. It often has much less water flowing, but recent rains have added a lot of volume.

  16. Beautiful shot. I admire you, as I know just how hard it is to take photo in rainforest conditions. You have done a fantastic job.

  21. I just love the dark green lushness of these photos. They are just beautiful, sort of mysterious. It's been a long time since I've been in deep woods that give this quality of light. Not that many lush woods in central AZ. And the waterfall is a great bonus find.

  22. I can't remember my last venture, unless a photo session with a two year old counts? That was a first for me, but lots of fun. =)
