Autumn Omission
Autumn Omission

The acoustics of the season tend to change as the month wears on, most of the trees are, for lack of a better term, naked now. I can't help but gawk at the branches and how beautiful they look against the sky. What lies beneath is just as interesting to me as they were with the changing leaves. I can appreciate a tree in any condition it seems, although this picture wasn't really about a tree.
This picture was inspired by the lonely chair I spotted behind an abandoned house located on Hwy 105, which is a main stretch of road I travel on occasion. I saw it, oh probably about a month ago, and instantly had the urge to pull over and photograph the lone chair, but I resisted.
Until the perfect day came along, and I was prepared, it wasn't really meant to happen. On the way home from Grandfather 2 weekends ago I finally decided it was time I brought my idea to full fruition. Cody definitely helped motivate me as well, the awesome assistant he is. Okay, that's sort of our joke, that he's my assistant - sets up the tripod, carries the equipment, etc.
Anyhow, the mission was accomplished and I was pretty pleased with the results.
What are your thoughts about the lone chair, or have you ever had the idea to photograph something out of the ordinary?

  1. What a great photo. I love taking pictures of "weird' or unusual things. Unexpected normalcy in an unnatural setting that catches my eye. Especially in large cities. I have to admit I do find urban settings more interesting, but I am learning to like the wild ones as well.

  2. Thanks! They are most certainly like night and day, that's for sure. I'm so small-town now, and don't make it to the city too often, haha. To my defense though I have become a lot more malleable when I am away from my beautiful landscapes........

  3. I love this photograph - it is so mournful. How the heck are you going narrow down all your wonderful pics to find the competition winner?

  4. Thanks Sian, well there are categories so the photos I chose will have to fit in one of the seven they have which may help in narrowing down a bit. So, you think I may have a chance? There are some really great photographers around here........

  5. A great photograph, great composition and great colour. They say a photograph says a thousand words. This one fills me with sadness... I'm not sure why... I agree with sian that it is mournful. There is a real sense of hollowness, unhappiness, solitude, loneliness. Any photograph that captures the imagination is a truly pricesless photograph.

I have just spent a couple of hours wandering through your amazing collection of photographs, with a cup of tea in my hand. You have an abundance of amazing photographs... all of them more than worthy to enter any competion or hang on any wall.

You have a great gift in your vision and your creativity.
