Greeting from Oregon's Coast

No, this isn't where I am......



This postcard comes from Elizabeth @ Retinal Perspectives.
I was delighted to trade postcards with her, especially since Oregon's coast intrigues me.
It reminds me so much of Big Sur, and I hope that I'll go to Oregon's coast one day as well.

but of her adorable weimy appropriately named Atlas.


Stretching 362 miles (583 km) from the city of Astoria to the California border, the Oregon Coast is unique in that the entire coast is public land. Oregon law prohibits private ownership of coastline property.


Another one of my most favorite bloggers happens to reside in Oregon as well.
And since Lydia recently did an in depth post about the coast of Oregon,
and how it came to be preserved, I will point you in her direction to learn more.

Greeting From Freiburg

I received this some time last week.
Before this postcard, I had never heard of Freiburg before.
Have you?

On the edge of the beautiful Black Forest, Freiburg is close to both France and Switzerland.
Because of its scenic beauty, relatively warm and sunny climate and easy
access to the Black Forest, Freiburg is a hub for regional tourism.

What I found to be most interesting is that,
Freiburg has acquired recognition for being one of the 'greenest cities' in the world.
With their strong standard for building eco-friendly housing and maintaining
car-free streets in many areas, they have set an example of sustainability.
The citizens of Freiburg are known in Germany for their love of cycling and recycling!



I didn't find any photos that allowed sharing without permission,

The architecture is magnificent,
I was really blown away by how lovely that little city is.

Greeting from Talkeetna, Alaska

Talkeetna. Where three rivers meet.
The Talkeetna, Chulitna, and Susitna,
converge here to become the Big Susitna drainage.
The historic village of Talkeetna is nestled at the base of Mount McKinley
(Denali), North America's tallest peak.
The town is halfway between, Anchorage and Denali National Park.

Alaska is definitely a travel destination on my list of places to visit.

I Love Postcards : Greeting from Wudang

Ancient Architectural Complex on Wudang Mountain


Situated in Hubei Province, Wudang Mountain is a famous mountain sacred to Taoism and birthplace of the art of Wudang Boxing. The scenery here is very beautiful. A lot of marks of long history and rich culture of the mountain can be found on the mountain, while the Taoist architectural complex, mostly built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was inscribed on the World Heritage List. The main tourist spot are Xuanyue Gate, Yuanhe Taoist Temple, Yuzhen Palace, Zixiao Palace and Golden Hall.

Mount Wudang is perhaps the most famous Taoism holy land in China.

I am in need of a getaway.....
I wonder what we can cook up this weekend?!
Surely it won't take me to the sacred mountain tops of Wudang,
but it should be a retreat of sorts.
One that will allow me to reconnect with myself, and nature.
I have a place in mind....

Greeting from Boracay!

My Dad left for the Philippines a couple weeks ago.
Spending time with his Mom, as well as, brothers & sisters.
My Dad has about 7 brothers and sisters!
All of which I have never met before, my grandmother included.

My middle name was chosen with my grandmother in mind, Elena.
Sometimes, I wish that were my first name.....it's such a pretty name.
I sincerely hope that one day in the very near future I will be able to venture to the Philippines to meet my extended family.
My Dad is staying for a little over a month, I'm jealous.
Isn't that place beautiful!!



He says that one day he plans to retire there.....when that day comes, maybe I'll go live with him for a while and discover my roots?!
I'm not really a lay-out-at-the-beach kind of girl, but there is a lot more to the beautiful islands than the sandy beaches.

This postcard makes my heart ache, and ignites a wildly untamed wanderlust that won't be satisfied any time soon.

Greeting from Fairford!

"Fairford Mill" By: Diane Setek

• I received this psotcard from Fairford, a small town in Gloucestershire, England.
  

Ancient times: Fairford, first mentioned in written records in AD 850, gained its name from the Saxon "Fagrinfordia", which means "fair" (easy to cross) ford. The ford was an ancient crossing place for the river Coln, before the town bridge was built in the 13th century. In 1787 the river was excavated, making it much deeper and narrower.

Places of interest in Fairford include the beautiful St Mary’s Church, noted for its world famous stained glass windows, probably one of the most spectacular displays of stained glass windows in the Cotswolds.

• I received this in the mail yesterday.
• Have you ever heard of this place before? Me: No..........
• Did you know, that this used to be the capital of POLAND? Me: I do now...........
• This building is called "Cloth Hall" or Sukiennice .
• From what I have read this building dates back to the 1300's! Me: Whoa, that's a long time.

As an attempt to be open I'm going to confess something, just yesterday Cody received a postcard from his Mom and expecting me to post it, I refused. I realize that with me being the post card collecting junkie you may find that somewhat hard to believe, but let me explain myself. I'm not sure why I automatically assumed or believed that his Mom would actually address it only to Cody while leaving me to wonder why I wasn't included as well but this is where I feel like a nincompoop - today I got home from work to find my very own postcard from none other that Cody's Mom which was solely addressed to me. Just yesterday I was slightly bothered by the idea that I had been left out and I went over this past weekend in my head to try and figure out what I may have done wrong, why wasn't my name on the postcard too. I feel rather silly now, especially after getting my very own postcard with a simple but heartfelt message that meant so much to me. Although you didn't know I still feel sorry for even thinking like that and I could have very easily not said anything and went along my merry way but I couldn't..............
Thank you for the wonderful postcard, I truly think the world of you and look forward to what will come.

This postcard was sent to me from my friend Tiffany who recently got back from a trip to The Bahamas! According to her this postcard doesn't do the place justice which I can definitely understand since most postcards that I find don't! That's why I should make my own postcards but I do love love love getting them from people. Thank you Tiffany for being an awesome friend, you're the best! I never really thought this whole "add to my collection" thing would catch on but I am finding that I have some really amazing friends who are extremely thoughtful in those ways.

Staying connected with you all is what I cherish the most especially since I don't have very many friends here in Boone. Which by the way is entirely my fault because I don't really make any effort to find any. But honestly I'm okay with that. I have really enjoyed reacquainting myself with friends that I believed to be long lost until Myspace came along. It's amazing how easy it is to keep contact with folks that way. And finding people you haven't seen or heard from in years is always the best surprise. Last night I spoke with an old friend named Kelly whom I went to school with parts of middle school (we just realized) and high school which is where we were really good friends. It was great reminiscing with her after almost 10 years, the constant "do you remember" him/her. Thinking about our dorky JROTC days and boot camp and all of the other people we came to know so well will forever stay ingrained in my memory. Thinking back I've had some really great friends along the way - it was hard growing up and moving back and forth all the time. My Mom kept us on the go when we were younger. I don't even know how many elementary schools I went to, middle schools I would say about 3 maybe 4, and High School I know I went to 3 total. So, that's just a lot of moving around - making friends all over again in each new place we went. It was hard leaving people behind especially when you are younger and can't quite understand why you have to go. But like I said I met some really influential people that I will not soon forget & I can only hope that those I have yet to make contact with again that we will somehow find one another down the road.

For some reason when I got home from work yesterday I had the strongest urge to check my mailbox. Before taking my things inside I almost just left them in the car but thought no,no whatever is in that box can wait a minute or two until I take my things inside the house. So, I hurriedly took my things inside , sat them down in my computer chair then proceeded to the mailbox. And boy did I have the most wonderful surprise waiting for me inside - Nuri has sent me some postcards!!! And they are just so beautiful I can't get over how exciting it was for me to have and hold these postcards from someone so very far away and whom I have never met. I just love making these types of connections with people. And maybe one day we will go to Spain and who knows maybe we'd get to meet one another - the prospect of such an occurrence thrills me to no end. Vegas is just the beginning for me, I hope to venture abroad at some point in my life. Sooner rather than later would work for me! I just wanted to say thank you, thank you to Nuri again for brightening my day with this incredible gesture. I hope that in the future we can exchange postcards again. Girona & Cadaqués

And in other news: Yesterday I also received a very generous birthday card from Cody's mom & dad which was a complete shock to me when I opened it. I was just delighted that she thought of me enough to send me a birthday card and I certainly didn't expect anything other than that once I opened it but boy was it a grand surprise indeed. I just want to say again to Lee & Craig thank you, thank you so much for your thoughtfulness; it really means a lot to me!

I didn't get to bed until 2:30am last night because I decided to wait until the very last minute to get packed and ready to hit the road. I surely hope we are not forgetting anything important. I'm sure I'll be re-running the check list in my head for the majority of the day and living so close to work is a good thing just in case!! I am truly excited and extremely nervous about the whole ordeal - I hope that everything goes well.

Here are two postcards I received in the mail last week! You'll notice that one is from Cody while he was away on vacation in Cape Hatteras and the other is from one of my most favorite people Christie. Christie was in New York for the US Open and while there she sent me a postcard to add to my ever growing collection! Isn't she awesome.........and let's not forget Cody as he brought home a ton of postcards. What was funny is after I looked through them all naturally I picked out my most favorite ones which happened to be the ones that Cody selected as being the ones I would like most. I suppose that after being with someone for more than a year you start picking up on those sorts of things, huh?!

Wildflowers of Colorado

This is a postcard that my friend Dave brought back for me along with a plaque that has Kokopelli etched in sandstone from his Colorado trip over a week ago. He knows how much I like postcards and the last time he went I received some too. I always have to make sure that I get a postcard from where ever I travel, it's one of the cheapest keepsakes you can buy. Maybe that's why I like them so much - because they are cheap! I have a journal/scrapbook that I put all of them in. I was thinking about how neat it would be if I could engage others in helping me with my postcard collection. I would be willing to send one to you in return.
