Food Videos That Will Leave You Hungry For More | Foodie Friday

Foodie Friday is a weekly feature here on Wayfaring Wanderer where I fuel my obsession with food. It really is a problem. One that I don't mind indulging in, though. Although I might feed my insatiable appetite more often than I really should, but can you blame me?! I'm not the only one. It seems like a lot of us are consumed with food these days—I have a bunch of foodie friends. Last week on FF, I shared a restaurant review for a place in Charleston, SC called Husk. It was selected by Bon Appetite Magazine as the #1 Best New Restaurant in America! To say the least, my meal was amazing, and I really appreciate what the restaurant is trying to accomplish with their mission. If you're interested in reading more about Husk, I encourage you to visit last week's post here.

This week, I'd like to share some really awesome videos that will have you licking your lips! (See...you just did it :D) Photos of food is one thing, but watching videos simply heightens the desire to stuff your face. Not that I'm advocating careless eating, but let's face it, food is meant to be fulfilling. It just so happens that it's also beautiful!

1. E A T

The first one I'd like to share was commissioned by STA Travel Australia, and is part of a series of short films. However, this one—the best one—is about food! Here is the video caption: “3 guys, 44 days, 11 countries, 18 flights, 38 thousand miles, an exploding volcano, 2 cameras and almost a terabyte of footage later..”

There are a lot of amazing looking dishes packed into this one-minute video, but it almost feels like it's too short. Still, it makes you want to get all EAT-PRAY-LOVE and roam around the world so you can get your fill of food from other countries. That's what it does for me at least.

2. Tonelli Food Reel

The next video to share is based on the food photography of Francesco Tonelli. I sort of discovered this super talented individual by accident. I can't really recall how I did it either, but I'm glad that I found his inspiring body of work. Chances are that you've probably seen his photographs but didn't know it, because he's pretty prolific and has had images showcased in many well-known publications. He's not just a food photographer, though. Francesco also cooks and actually styles the majority of the meals that he shoots. In case you weren't aware, you'll see captioned in most magazines that shoots are styled by one person and photographed by another, so he's multi-talented. This video shows you just how talented he really is.

I could watch that video over and over. A symphony of food that will surely leave you famished in the end. Am I right?! And it also makes me more appreciative of how amazing food really is. It's not just pretty to look at and fun to eat. No, it has the power heal and nourish our bodies, increase awareness about other cultures as well as remind us of how those before us sustained themselves, not to mention how food can bring people together whether it's a family meal, dinner date, or lunch with the ladies, food unifies us. At least, that's how I feel about food, especially when I get to see it through Francesco's eyes.

QUESTION: What's your relationship with food?
And are you hungry after watching these videos?! I know I am!

{VIDEO} Oceanside Picnic w/ Chef Chris Ivens-Brown | Sony Foodie Blogger Event | California

This video was taken as Chef Chris Ivens-Brown explained the dishes we would be sampling for lunch during the Sony Foodie Blogger picnic in San Diego, CA. It stinks that my camera battery died right before he was done, but this still gives you a great run down of what's in store. You can see this in HD on Facebook.

Want to see more?
I'll be sharing the images from the Oceanside Farmer's Market and picnic this Sunday! Bring your appetite :D

Going Coastal in Charleston, SC (The Raw Footage)

This video is fresh from our recent mini-vacay to Charleston, SC. The magic of my flipshare software created this compilation from approximately 130 short clips I took throughout our visit. It's raw, real raw.

But I'm not judging it, I just want to share snippets from my trip sooner than I usually do and I thought this would be a fun way of  bringing it to you. Instead of solely sharing static images I liked the idea of capturing dynamic "photos" that added a sense of sound to the mix.

Along the way, we discovered that Charleston, SC is a multifaceted city that took us through endless adventures. This video gives you a sample of all that we encountered. More to come!

Beautiful Secret...

I love this video, it's like a love note in cinematic form. I've been keeping a lot of beautiful secrets to myself lately. This week, though, I've done a good job of sticking with the daily blogging commitment. And even though I didn't post the 2nd half of the 24hr Adventure in Asheville, I know it's okay. There's no reason why it can't wait until Monday. Besides, I'm lucky that I stuck out the entire week by posting everyday when I've been MIA for 2 months! It feels good to be actively participating again.

I hope you find a snippet of joy somewhere in this thoughtful video, it is definitely worth a moment of your time. Have a great weekend!

Don't get too close!

Were the words ringing in our ears as the ranger hung her head out the check-in station window.
I didn't pay attention because I was already keeping my distance, but there were many who weren't. The second sighting was even worse. Just down the road, minutes after our first black bear sighting, were two more black bears roving through the forest. A good indicator that a black bear is in the vicinity would be to pay close attention to how many cars are unlawfully parked on the side of the road, not to mention the herd of people. Now, be sure to stay behind the 'not-to-bright' layer of people who are standing way too close in the event that the black bears attack!

Alright, I'll be straight with you, black bear attacks are extremely rare, but in the event that you come face-to-face with one someday, here is some advice I found for dealing with such a situation.

Speak calmly and slowly back away. Doing so identifies you as a person, will show that you are non-threatening, and will allow some space between you and the black bear. Cody's advice to me, prior to our camping trip, was to not run away. Whatever you do, DON'T RUN! Their natural instinct is to chase you whether they want to or not.

Now, I also read that since they are usually very timid, you can scare them away by yelling, banging pans, or by make any other sorts of loud and obnoxious noises to scare them.

Thankfully, we weren't involved in any encounters that required rash decision making!

They were all rather difficult to photograph because of the tall grass and constant movement. Luckily, Cody got this awesome video so that we could share the experience with you!

PSA: For the record, I just want to say that it is NOT OKAY to park your vehicle in the middle of the road, mush less get out of the vehicle that is holding up traffic! Who does that?! Seriously. Especially on a busy road like Skyline Drive! I was dumbfounded by that display of stupidity.
Please, don't do that :D

Brighter Days Ahead

Brighter Days

guided by stewards
inspiration evokes change
I see brighter days

I see brighter days for two reasons. 1.) I simply wish that the rain would cease.
and 2.) Because of people like Joel Salatin.

Cody and I attended "An Evening with Joel Salatin" tonight. It was a great presentation that entertained and inspired. Joel owns and operates Polyface, Inc., a farm in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The virtual tour he gave us during the talk had some wonderful photos, and along the way, he revealed mind blowing revelations. Joel is a true visionary. Really. I hope to share more about Polyface, Inc in the future, and maybe even head that way for a long weekend as the weather begins to warm. We have been dying to go camping in the Shenandoah Valley for awhile now :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

{A Video: For the Photographer*}

If you are a creative type, I highly recommend that you watch this video.

I have watched it a few times. I love this video.
What I would have to say about this piece now, can't
compare to how I felt when I first saw it and left a comment.

Your words most definitely struck a cord with me…..
this is truly a treasure I am glad to have stumbled upon……Right now, I feel human.

Animating Inspiration

Isn't this the most enchanting video EVAR! An example of creative genius at its finest.
I haven't heard of Oren Lavie before, but if all his songs are as whimsical as this one,
I might be inclined to have a listen to the rest of the album.
Either way, I had to share this video with you today.

Also, I just wanted to mention that as of yesterday I have sold 6 mini print trios, which means that $4.20 is what will currently go to NAPPC to fund research for Colony Collapse Disorder.

~ A Stroll Through Oakland Cemetery ~

I was wondering how I could possible portray how I felt while in this majestic place.
And it wasn't until last night that I came up with an idea that satisfied me.
Now, Oakland Cemetery wasn't your everyday final resting place,
it's one of the oldest & largest cemeteries you will ever visit.
Unfortunately for us, we didn't discover that until our
last day in Atlanta. And the time we did spend
there was very little.

So, below is what I have tirelessly been working on,
okay, not tirelessly, but it took me some time to figure out
how to use Windows Movie Maker.

I can't even tell you how many times I've watched it.....
it makes me feel happy, sad, nostalgic, and thankful all at the same time.
I'm probably so attached to it because of how much I treasured that alluring haunt.
The victorian -styled cemetery was truly a captivating plot of land.

I hope this video conveys my feelings while strolling through Oakland Cemetery.
Sit back, turn the volume up, and enjoy.

A gift that's given
without any conditions
is the best of all.

  • I went to the dentist yesterday. Bye, bye wisdom teeth! I feel like crapolla, but in a good way :o)
  • I intended to stay home from work today, but got called in at 8:30, our office was broken into and I had to check to see what was missing from my office. It is a rotten situation. I stayed till about 11:00, then came back home.
  • Needless to say, I won't be partying for Halloween, instead, I'll be right here at home.

No More Straight Lines!

{Let's Learn Photoshop Together}

I was curious to find out how to get text to run along a designated path.
Thinking that, at some point, I would find it useful.
It was quite painless to learn, and at the same time got me interested in the pen tool.

Here are my first attempts at applying my handy new skill.
I wanted to demonstrate how it could be used,
and thought that variations would help.

Text on a Path

Here is a video on how to put text on a path.
(You may also learn a few other tips as well-I did.)

I liked the first video since it showed you how to create a path using the pen tool.
But just in case, here is another one to show you a different way of doing it.

I hope that you may find this helpful,
if so, please let me know so I continue to share more.

Compare : Contrast

{Let's Learn Photoshop Together}

It's been quite a while since I have touched base on photoshop.
What I want to share today is a tool I frequently find myself using.
The Curves tool is an extremely useful element that can be highly underutilized.
Maybe you've opened it before and played around only to quickly x-out.......
It's a lot easier to control once you understand the basics of how it works.

Whether you like to make drastic changes or minor adjustments, curves is a great starting point.
This video below is a basic guide for the beginning Curves user.

Quick Start Tutorial

Below is a very subtle but effective example of how using Curves can enhance your photos.
Adding contrast can emphasize texture or intensify
subject-background separation, like in the 'with curves' photo below.
Darkening the shadowy background even further makes the yellow flower pop.
It's not a huge change, but I think it makes a difference.

Curves Adjustment Layer

The key concept with curves is that you can never add contrast in one
tonal region without also decreasing it in another.
In other words, the curves tool only redistributes contrast.

If you had some trouble following in the first video,
here is another one that may help clarify.

White Reveals, Black Conceals

Pearly Whites with Texture

This is what I did with the concrete texture from last weeks exercise.
See what Liss & Elizabeth did with the concrete texture and layers.

Last week we touched base on the basics of how to use layers. A handful of you expressed interest in following along, although I only received 2 links to pictures where you used the texture. If you're not ready to share I understand, but I strongly encourage you to participate when you get a chance. If you did happen to post a photo, but forgot to send your link, you are more than welcome to include it in the comment section of this post.

It takes very little time to sit down and discover what will open many doors for you when processing a photo. I know it sounds cliché, but really, the possibilities will become endless! Once you begin to understand the basics of layers and how they interact with one another, finding different ways to manipulate them is where the real fun begins.

Dainty White

There are other useful tools to be aware of when using layers that weren't addressed in those last two tutorials - this is what we will go over today.
Layer masks are a handy way of applying a certain effect to a particular area of a photo.
Sour Cherries (pictured below) was an instance where I used a layer mask.
I applied a texture to the photo, but I didn't want it to cover the cherries themselves, so I used a layer mask.

Sour Cherries

The video below is a pretty basic, but comprehensive tutorial on how to use layer masks.

This one is a useful tip on using quick masks, and is very short.

Below is a longer tutorial that will teach you various ways of using layer masks.
It may help to clear up a few things not discussed in the first video.
If you have more time, take a peek...

Don't forget, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Also, if you have something that you would like to learn, but don't want to spend the time digging around, send me your suggestions.

A good tip to remember from this weeks Layer Mask exercise is "White Reveals, and Black Conceals".

Permafrost

~ In a perfect world.....I'd get a snow day.....I'm pretty desperate to get an extra day or so off right now but refuse to call in "sick".......just because I'm hurting doesn't mean that I'm "sick"......It just means that sitting here is making me........well........for lack of a better term.......sick!.......most people want to sit around and veg out on sick days......me, I'd much rather be out hiking and taking pictures instead of sitting in a solitary position all day long.....Thankfully, I have an Acupuncture appointment today so maybe I will get some relief then - I've got my fingers crossed.....no more moving refrigerators or microwaves for me anytime soon.....I'm stubborn, I know.
~ The above photo was one that I took during the freak ice storm we had a few weeks ago, which resulted in a quasi snow day......I post it in hopes of conjuring yet another one sometime this week....I wish I knew some sort of snow dance!.....anyways, I just never got around to posting this photo but it deserved to be here as much as any of the other ones so.......here it is......this a a tree in the field right next to our driveway.....if I composed the shot differently with more of the left side of the frame in view you would have seen the downed power line......which by the way is still there!.......I'm guessing it's the phone line since we don't have a land line thus never calling them to come out.....Lights, Cable, Phone....all different people.....they don't care if the other guys stuff is laying around posing a hazard.....Everyone's got that it's not my job mentality these days it seems......

============================================================================

Interesting tidbit:

ZeFrank: I appreciate his way of thinking, and to me this video seemed valid for how I'm currently feeling. His other videos are zesty and often times peppered with slants on current events. Although this one has no explicit language or other offensive content.

*Cody stumbled upon this guys stuff last night, he's a pretty interesting character. This video was part of a podcast project he did mon-fri for an entire year.

I found this video while viewing Time Magazines "Top 10 Viral Videos" list. There was another one there that really, really made me laugh but I chose not to share it due to the "language". My sense of humor might not have been shared with others who read the blog.
This list of videos have each had millions of downloads a piece; click on the link above to see what all of the fuss is about. For instance, my other favorite one of the bunch (the one with the "language") was #2 The Landlord with Will Ferrell which had nearly 50 million downloads! Take a look at:

"DAFT HANDS"

I thought this little video was rather funny and to a certain extent ingenious, although I don't really know when or if it has been done before. Clearly someone had some time on their hands here with this little show of wit. I don't think I myself could have kept all of the words straight, I wonder how many takes were involved here?! Personally, I laughed and smiled throughout the entire video which compelled me to share it with you in hopes that it would do the same.
